Britney Spears: ‘I’m really just a tomboy at heart’

ritney Spears knows we're sizing up her clothes, her hair, and her makeup in every photo that's shot of her, whether she's performing at one of her concerts, catching a movie with her boyfriend Jason Trawick and her young sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, or working as a judge on TV's "The X Factor." But the truth is that dolling up for every click of the camera can be exhausting when you're followed by the paparazzi 24/7. Plus, it's just not really her style. "I love my jeans and my sweats — I'm really just a tomboy at heart," the Louisiana native reveals in a new interview with Elle. "So it's really hard for me to be like Kim Kardashian and be makeup- and hair-ready every time I go out of my house. I'm not a believer in that, you know? On the other hand, when you do wear those sweats, you're like, 'Oh God, I should step it up a notch.'"

Spears also realizes that no matter what she's wearing, it's almost always going to generate headlines about her appearance, her love life, the conservatorship she's been under since 2008, and ... well, pretty much anything. "I guess I've been under the microscope so long that I don't even pay attention to the nonsense anymore," she tells the magazine. "I gave up getting upset about things people make up about me a long time ago."

However, 14 years after her debut song "...Baby One More Time" hit the airwaves, Spears is a lot more cautious about the info she gives out. Interviews like the one with Elle have become less frequent, and when she is interviewed she's definitely less forthcoming. When Trawick, her former agent, attempts to describe how he and Spears went from having a professional relationship to a romantic one, and reveals that it was Spears who made the first move — "It was kind of one of those things where she moved, like, turned around, so we were face-to-face, and then...." — she quickly shuts him down.
